Content Moderation Policy

We’re implementing content moderation rules for this and future years of remixapod, as part of our efforts to reduce racist and other oppressive content in fandom as a whole, and in remixapod in particular, based on the Voiceteam moderation rules. Any podfic submitted for remixapod and any remixes created for this challenge must follow these rules.
These rules are intended to provide a way to flag and address racist and other oppressive content in remixapod fanworks. They're also intended to help participants think carefully and respectfully about their fanworks, including, for creators, whether they would benefit from the help of a sensitivity reader or consult. (Please contact the mods if you’d like help finding a sensitivity reader/consult at any point during the challenge!)
These rules do not prevent participants from submitting or creating fanworks about oppressive contexts, and we strongly encourage participants to both submit and create fanworks that focus on BIPOC characters. If your fanwork deals with characters’ experiences of racism or oppression, please tag and/or provide warning notes appropriately.
Anyone may flag a remixapod fanwork which they believe does not meet the rules of the content policy, as described below, using this anonymous reporting form.
Content Moderation
- No podfic or creations containing racism, misogyny, ableism, fatmisia, transmisia or queermisia unless explicitly warned to contain such.
- For example, language, slurs, tropes, character archetypes, etc.
- Other oppressive tropes or language can also be flagged to mods and will be followed up in the same way as the above mentioned content.
- No podfic or creations which use real-life BIPOC tragedies as a backdrop for stories that center on a White character.
- For example, AUs focused on a period of time where BIPOC people are oppressed, such as a Slavery AU.
- No podfic or creations which use negative stereotypes as a way to demonize or discard BIPOC characters in favor of White characters (i.e. ‘the angry Black woman’ or ‘the smart Asian’).
- No podfic or creations which whitewash BIPOC, or which erase BIPOC in order to center White characters.
Policy Enforcement
- If mods notice any of these content elements present in a podfic which has been submitted, we will remove it from the matching process. We may get in touch with the podficcer if this impacts our ability to match them.
- If we notice any of the above oppressive content elements in a remix which has been created, we will get in touch with the remixer to ask that the appropriate tags/warnings be added to the AO3 post. If the remixer does not follow these guidelines, the work will be removed from any remixapod collections.
- If anyone flags an untagged/unwarned oppressive trope or content, as detailed in the Content Moderation section, the mods will check for accuracy. If the oppressive trope/content is confirmed, the same steps will be followed as above.
If you have any feedback about other specific content you think we should be moderating, or any aspect of the content moderation policy, please let us know either through the usual methods or the anonymous reporting form.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask us! You can comment right here, on the FAQ post, on twitter remixapod or send us an email: remixapod at gmail.
